About Menlo House

@menlohouse @fivefour

Menlo House is an e-commerce site selling casual clothing and accessories for men. The brand also offers a monthly and quarterly style subscription to club members. We’ll cover this service in our Menlo Club subscription review, to help you decide whether or not it’s worth your money.

Overview of Menlo Club

Fashion entrepreneurs Andres Inquieta and Dee Murthy founded the Five Four clothing brand in 2002. Their initial mission was simple: to help men dress better. Menlo House evolved from this starter brand and has since attained international status.

Within the last year, Menlo House upped their style subscription game with the launch of two exciting new brands. In the words of Inquieta and Murthy:

“Going into the new year, we asked ourselves, how can we create a more personalized experience for you, our Five Four Man?”

Their answer: Grand AC athletic wear and New Republic footwear. The Menlo Club subscription has become increasingly popular in the realm of urban style, providing members with modern and trend-savvy clothing through Five Four, Grand AC, and New Republic.

How Menlo Club Works

Signing up as a Menlo Club member makes shopping for clothes simple—no more endless website browsing or wandering through retail stores aimlessly looking for something that inspires you.

New subscribers complete a brief quiz, to help Menlo Club stylists assemble curated boxes based on sizing and personal style preference. The quiz only takes a few minutes and involves choosing images of apparel that you find most appealing. More details on the sign-up process can be found later on in this Menlo Club subscription review.

By joining the Menlo Club, you agree to pay a $60 monthly styling fee. Members receive 2-3 items of Menlo Club clothing and shoes each month. That’s at least 24 new pieces every year, ensuring that your outfits are always fresh and in style.

@menloclub

This Menlo Club subscription review, we’ll give you a taste of the core brands. We’ll start with the one that started it all:

Five Four

Menlo House grew from Five Four and this is the brand that features most in Menlo Club packages. Five Four apparel has the look of streetwear, with casual pieces including hoodies, sweatshirts, jeans, tees, and shorts. Most Five Four clothing comes in darker neutrals, some featuring graphics and fun prints like camo and tye dye.

Five Four x Mark McNairy is a new collaboration featured in the subscription. It has an elevated vibe compared to Five Four, with styles ranging from traditional, to bold prints and patterns, to sleek leather pieces.

Grand AC

Grand AC has the casual same vibe as Five Four, and a lot of the same colors and prints. Where Five Four does streetwear, Grand AC blurs the line between athleticwear and athleisure. If you like the idea of camo workout gear, you’ll like Grand AC. A Menlo Club package featuring Grand AC could deliver you anything from shirts inspired by soccer jerseys, to workout tanks, shorts, and tights.

New Republic

New Republic footwear offers a switch up to the apparel most often found in Menlo Club packages. New Republic’s classic shoes, boots, and sneakers are designed using premium leather and suede. Paired with Five Four and Grand AC, New Republic footwear completes the personally curated outfits for Menlo Club subscribers. For more on New Republic, check out our in-depth review.

Is the Menlo Club Subscription Worth It?

@menloclub @fivefour @newrepublicman

While writing this Menlo Club subscription review, I googled online customer reviews in hot pursuit of any stand-out complaints or red flags. I’m happy to report that in general, most customers appeared satisfied with the service.

The website AskMen gave Menlo Club a 4.5/5 star rating, and their rating is 3.5/5 on My Subscription Addiction. Many customers claimed that the items were good quality and that all-in-all they considered their monthly costs money well spent.

While I did come across several complaints that the clothing did not fit well and was of flimsy quality, by far the most common complaint I encountered focused on difficulties experienced when cancelling a subscription. Several customers complained that Menlo House staff ignored their cancellation requests.

One customer stated that upon making contact with staff, he was informed his Menlo Club cancellation was not possible due to security concerns. This last one sounds pretty strange, and I’m curious to know how things ended up.

Putting this negative feedback aside, most Menlo Club reviews online are positive. Based on my findings for this Menlo Club subscription review, I feel that $60 is a small price to pay for 2-3 items of mens’ apparel and shoes each month.

The Menlo Club sounds like an interesting shopping solution for those not interested in actually hitting the pavement or even going through online sites to hand-select items for themselves.
