Tropicfeel Shoes Review

About Tropicfeel

Tropicfeel brands itself as the world’s most functional travel shoe, providing versatile all-terrain sneakers for men and women. Tropicfeel revolves around sustainability, aiming to become carbon neutral. The brand works with ethical suppliers and donates part of its proceeds to national parks, with the goal of ensuring that every footprint made is a positive one.

This Tropicfeel shoes review will cover all you need to know: their products, pricing, customer feedback, and FAQ’s. Let’s see if Tropicfeel shoes live up their promise and provide the right shoe for a true traveller’s lifestyle.

Overview of Tropicfeel

In early 2017, intrepid travellers Espinós and De Gispert founded Tropic, now called Tropicfeel. The Tropicfeel Kickstarter campaign was the brand’s beginning, as its founders raised funds to design the perfect travelling shoe. Espinós and De Gispert had taken an earlier trip to Thailand, and hundreds of hours walking with heavy backpacks destroyed their sneakers. Their experience sparked the idea of creating durable and versatile shoes that would be both stylish and functional.

Tropicfeel Shoes Review 1

Tropicfeel shoes are designed to be worn in any situation you might find yourself in while travelling, from posh nightclubs to mountain treks, and from New York City to the Galapagos Islands. The versatility of the shoes allows one to travel lighter, ensuring an easier and more joyous travel experience.

No more worrying about packing numerous shoes for all occasions, including those dress shoes you lug around in your backpack and then only use once! The versatility also ensures the shoes get used often, rather than sit in the closet for 11 months of the year waiting to serve a very specific purpose. Be honest with yourself, how often are you going to use aqua-shoes that serve as aqua-shoes only?

Tropicfeel currently offers two kinds of shoes, the Monsoon and the Canyon. They also sell their Havasu flip-flops, a backpack, and a travel pack that combines products together at a discount. Tropicfeel is exclusively an online retailer, with all of the brand’s products sold on their website.

This Tropicfeel shoes review will take a look at both the benefits and downsides associated with the brand:

Pros

  • Shoes are lightweight and versatile, freeing up space in your backpack
  • Simple, yet aesthetically pleasing shoe designs in a variety of colours
  • Shoes are conveniently slip on, breathable, quick drying, and comfortable
  • Products are reasonably priced
  • Sustainably sourced materials, many of which are vegan friendly
  • A variety of travel packs and discounts available
  • Free shipping if you live in Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, The Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, The United Kingdom or United States
  • Shoes can be returned or exchanged within the first 2 weeks after delivery

Cons

  • Products can only be purchased online, so customers do not have the option of trying on shoes before purchase
  • Limited product choices: only two shoe designs, one flip-flop product, and one backpack to choose from
  • Customers claim to have been ignored by customer service, and for it taking numerous attempts to communicate with them
  • Customers complain about receiving the wrong product and long delivery times
  • If you are outside of the aforementioned countries, you have to pay for shipping and returns

Tropicfeel Monsoon Review

Tropicfeel Shoes Review 2

Tropicfeel Monsoon shoes offer 4-in-1 versatility: it has the lightness of an aqua shoe, the comfort and durability of a walking shoe, and the look of an everyday sneaker. The Monsoon is made out of 70% polyester from 4 recycled plastic bottles and features 8% algae in the insoles. The shoe is advertised as vegan-friendly, which is pretty cool.

Speaking of cool, the Monsoon has drainage holes and air mesh, so it’s quick drying, breathable, and odourless —  perfect for anything from hiking in the Amazon to treading the streets of New York in high summer. The shoe has a slip on design and sprint laces (a knot-stopping, shoe-tightening mechanism). They’re ideal for being constantly on the go, and honestly I’m down for not having to tie shoes. The Monsoon is available in chive green, choco red, opal blue and black for $101

Tropicfeel Canyon Review

Tropicfeel Shoes Review 3

Billed as the ultimate travel shoe version 2.0, the Canyon features the versatility of its predecessor, with an improved slip resistant sole to ensure a better grip on all surfaces. While writing this Tropicfeel shoes review, it’s easy to picture how beneficial these shoes would be for navigating rugged terrain or wet, slippery surfaces (cave exploring, anyone?). Just like the Monsoon, the Canyon is quick drying, odorless, lightweight, and breathable.

The Canyon offers superior comfort, with a fit designed to be worn with or without socks. For the adventurous sock haters out there, this is definitely a shoe to look into. It’s produced using 3.5 recycled bottles and is vegan friendly, but I’m wondering why there is no algae in this version. The Canyon comes in sage green, blue navy, foggy sand and core black, priced at $112.

Havasu Flip-Flop Review

Tropicfeel Shoes Review 4

The Havasu is an ergonomic, lightweight flip-flop weighing only 114 grams, designed for walking in comfort all day long. It’s a flip-flop, so it’s not as versatile as the Canyon or the Monsoon. You probably won’t be wearing it to the club, but it’s ideal beach bums!

The Havasu is built with a textured bottom so they don’t slip off, made with cushioning EVA and algae bloom (there’s the algae!). Tropicfeel offers a pair for free if you buy your sneakers as part of a travel pack. This is definitely a bonus if you tend to lose your flip flops in the sand (seriously, no judging). The Havasu comes in aqua green, core black and living coral, priced at $29.

Tropicfeel Travel Packs Review

The only thing a true traveller might want more than a versatile shoe is free stuff. This Tropicfeel shoes review will take a look at the travel packs offered for group customers:

  • Solo Pack: buy a pair of sneakers, Tropicfeel gifts you a shopper bag and a pair of Havasu flip-flops
  • Couple Pack: buy two pairs of sneakers (15% discount), Tropicfeel gives you 2 shopper bags and 2 pairs of Havasu flip-flops for free
  • Family & Friends Pack: buy 3 or more pairs of sneakers (20% discount), Tropicfeel gifts you 3 shopper bags and 3 Havasu flip-flops

The free Havasu flip-flops are either aqua green or core black, with sizing matching the selected shoe size. To be honest, the shopper bag doesn’t seem like anything special, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to have an extra bag.

Cruiser Backpack Review

Ah, the backpack. What every hostel goer, minimalist traveler, and millennial with wanderlust needs (other than a passport). The Cruiser Backpack has a 20L capacity, and you can get a sense of the size in the photo below. Since I’m being honest in this Tropicfeel review, the backpack seems a bit small for a traveler. It’s probably not ideal for long trips. The Cruiser is made of 100% recycled polyester and is water repellent, priced at $21.

Tropicfeel Shoes Review: What Do Customers Think?

Customers can leave a Tropicfeel shoes review on the website. Tropicfeel customers compliment the fit and versatility of the shoes. They seem satisfied that the shoe can be worn in any situation, freeing up space in their backpack. Online comments highly rate the overall quality of the shoe, with many saying they wear their shoes every day.

That being said, there are complaints about customer service issues and issues with delivery, including long delays or being shipped the wrong product. Customers have expressed difficulty contacting customer service about these issues and the speed at which they are resolved, if they are resolved at all.

Customers looking to exchange or return products have similar complaints regarding inaccessible customer service. As the company website doesn’t provide a phone number, ultimately customers have to communicate with Tropicfeel through email, and many complain of having to send multiple emails after initial attempts to communicate were ignored.

As a result, some people have gone so far as to describe these circumstances in their Tropicfeel shoes review as a Tropicfeel scam.

Tropicfeel Promotions & Discounts

For this Tropicfeel shoes review, we searched for deals offered by the brand. We couldn’t find a Tropicfeel promo code, but discounts are offered when customers build travel packs. Check back on their site regularly for promotions.

Tropicfeel Sizing

Hi! I had ordered the Cala shoes but unfortunately didn’t get so far to receive them. Instead I got a message that I had to pay an extra 31,69euros because of cost made at the security boarder in Hong Kong… as customer you are obligated to pay those costs, if not you have the option to pay 9,90euros to return the order. So watch out… these shoes can become more expensive than calculated….

Order the cala shoes. Good shoes but shipped from hong kong with a 50 euros customs fees applyed …

As of Dec 2020, there is no free shipping outside of the EU. I had been reading reviews for the shoe and because all articles said there was free shipping to Singapore I clicked on the pay button without checking on tropicfeel’s website itself. I ended up paying the price for shipping.

Not Vegan
Asked by Luke (4 years ago) Reply

Hi, I was wondering about these shoes and used the live chat feature on the Tropicfeel website to ask if they’re vegan. It looks like they’re not vegan. Here’s the quote the representative sent: “Our shoes are not 100% vegan because of the glue we use, however, the rest of the materials and the production process meet all the terms to qualify as a vegan product! We work hard to help with planned conservation and we promote sustainability as a Tropicfeel priority!”
